Not convinced that the end is
near? Don't take our word for
it. Check out what these industry
professionals are saying about
the Oracle / Siebel merger,
and what it means for the IBM
dependant Siebel
on demand hosted CRM software system:
Mark Hall, editor at large
for Computer World weighs in
with his opinion on the future
of Siebel's CRM
On Demand, stating
"Oracle's move
to buy Siebel guarantees
one thing: Siebel
CRM on Demand
is toast. After all, why on
earth would Oracle
support a product that is designed
to run on IBM's DB2 database?
Trust me, it won't."
Some other analysts shared that view. SG Cowen & Co. analyst Peter Goldmacher called
Oracle's Siebel CRM On Demand takeover "a dream come true"
for other on demand hosted CRM software providers; he forecasts
in a research note that the deal will lead to turmoil in Siebel's CRM On Demand
sales organization and prompt a number of its top sellers to look elsewhere for work.
"Siebel's own ignorance about the future of its CRM applications is causing concern among customers, Martyn Tinsley (Siebel development and support manager at the Leeds City Council) said. 'At the moment we don't have enough information. We contacted Siebel, and they said they don't know what is going to happen yet. An issue we have is that Oracle ceases support for new products very quickly and Siebel supports old applications for a long time, so there is this difference in mentality of the two suppliers."

Sheryl Kingstone, an analyst
for Yankee Group also predicts
issues for the Siebel
CRM On Demand service:
"Oracle
has much more incentive to optimize
for their own software. I can
certainly see this is going
to be an issue going forward
for DB2 customers," Kingstone
said.
"It's
going to be an uncomfortable
relationship," added
David Bradshaw, analyst for
Ovum Ltd.
"Mark Pitcher, systems manager at the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, acknowledged that he is also very concerned about the acquisition, which could force him to migrate to another supplier.
"At the moment we are using Siebel on an SQL Server database, so this could have major implications if Oracle starts trying to make us move to Oracle applications," Pitcher said. "

Don Tennant, also a writer
for Computer World, writes "Of
course, Oracle
is still grappling with the
integration headaches stemming
from its acquisition of PeopleSoft
and, by extension, J.D. Edwards,
so dealing with the integration
of Siebel CRM On
Demand at the
same time is only going to make
those headaches throb more."
