- Familiarize yourself with the data fields you are using
in your current CRM software.
- Export your data into a CSV file. See
Importing Your Data for more information
about creating CSV files.
- Open your exported CSV file in Excel or Notepad. When
imported, each line in the file will be created as a new
record in salesboom.com When viewing the file in Notepad,
each field is separated by a comma and each line represents
an exported record. When viewing in Excel, each field
is shown in its own cell and each row represents an exported
record. Examine a few lines of the CSV file to get a feel
of how your data has been organized.
- Familiarize yourself with the data fields that are available
in salesboom.com
- Think about how you want to map your CSV data fields
to the salesboom.com data fields.
- You are now ready to begin importing your data.
- Select the tab page for the type of data you are importing,
i.e., Accounts, Contacts or Leads.
- Each of these tab pages has a Tools
section. Click the Import link located
in this section, i.e., Import Accounts. This will begin
the Import Wizard.
- The first step of the Import Wizard is to upload your
CSV data file. Click the Browse button
to help you specify the location of your CSV file. The
file can be located on your local computer or on another
computer on your local network.
- Select a Column Assignment, if you
had previously saved one, to help speed up the importing
process. See Step 7 for more information.
- Click Continue to advance to the next
step in the wizard.
- The second step of the Import Wizard is to assign field
values. This is where you map data fields from your CSV
file to data fields in salesboom.com See Mapping
Your CSV File for more information.
- Once you have specified how you want to map the data
fields, you can save you mapping format for future use.
Use the Save Settings As text box to
specify a name for your saved mapping settings. For example,
suppose you are importing accounts. Mapping the account
data fields in Step 2 of the Import Wizard is time consuming.
If you plan on importing more accounts using the same
settings in the future, you can save your data field mapping
settings and use them the next time you import accounts.
This way you do not have to manually select the mapping
settings every time you import accounts.
- Click Continue. An information box
will pop up. Click OK when you have read
the information. The importing process will now begin.
Also, your mapping settings will be saved, if you specified
to do so.
You can import data from any program
that can generate data files in the CSV (comma separated
values) format, such as Outlook, Excel and Palm devices.
The following data types can be imported into your Salesboom.com
organization:
|
Data Type |
Import Limit |
User Access |
Accounts |
2000 accounts per CSV file. |
All users.
|
Contacts |
2000 accounts per CSV file. |
All users.
|
Leads |
2000 accounts per CSV file. |
All users.

Each CSV file must contain only data
pertaining to the data type you are importing. For example,
when importing contacts, the CSV file must only contain
contacts. Each line in the file is interpreted as a record.
Each field in the record is separated by a comma. A line
from a CSV file containing contact data might look like
this:
First name, Last name, Account, business phone, Home
phone, Cell phone, email
Every line in the CSV file would be in this format. Take
note that not all available salesboom.com contact data
fields are listed. This is because it is not necessary
for all data fields to be present in the export file.
You need only export the data fields you are interested
in. The Salesboom.com import wizard allows you to map
any SalesBoom.com data field to any data field in your
CSV export file. SalesBoom.com data fields that are not
mapped can be filled in later if needed.
Each line in the CSV export file will create a new account,
contact or lead. You will be the owner of each item.
- All available salesboom.com data fields are listed
in Step 2 of the Import Wizard. This, of course, will
depend on the data type you are importing.
- The drop down boxes contain each data field in your
CSV file. The values displayed are from the first line
or row in the CSV file. Each listed salesboom.com data
field has a drop down box associated with it. The data
field you select from each drop down box will be mapped
to the associated salesboom.com data field.
- Every field in the CSV file is listed in the drop
down boxes and is further identified by a column number.
The column numbers represent the order in which the
data fields appear in the CSV file, i.e., Column1, Column2,
Column3 etc.
- The data fields that are shown in the drop down boxes
are from the first line (record) of the CSV file. Once
you have specified how you want to map your data fields,
salesboom.com uses the same mapping format for every
line in the CSV file.
